Mötley Crüe seemed like they were aways destined for stardom. They decided on the name Mötley Crüe after Mars heard someone refer to them as a “motley looking crew.” The umlauts were inspired by the German beer Löwenbräu. The band spent their early years performing on the garage circuit and played their first gig at Starwood nightclub on April 24th. Material was recorded in the studio,most of which was recorded after the departure of Razzle,who set off to seek his fortune in London.They did record one song with Razzle called "Holy War"at a small 4-track studio in East Cowes.It was engineered by Tim Muncaster.The line-up for this recording session was:Shaun Newnham (Vocals),Phillip Oswald AKA SG Coolbridge (Guitar),Nigel Higgs (Bass),Razzle (Drums).All the material remains unreleased. Most of the Sex Pistols 'Never Mind The Bollocks' album. Live,their set mainly consisted of cover versions of current Punk songs: It was during this time that Nick Dingley got his nickname of Razzle,given to him by John Edwardes the singer from Pump House Gang.He mentioned to Nick that he was always "Out on the Razzle". The bands biggest gig was supporting 'The Damned' at the Puckpool Leisure Centre in Ryde in April '79. The Underdogs gigged around the island during 1978,their biggest gig supporting the Lurkers at Ryde Town Hall that summer. Thin Red Line were formed in Ryde,Isle of Wight in late 1978 out of the ashes of the band 'The Underdogs'
